Symbols of Hope

Candles 05aCandles are lit in the darkening night
Symbols of hope and the joy of life,
Flickering flames on the edge of sight
Are set in the window by his wife.

Symbols of hope and the joy of life,
Their living flames grow tall and strong,
They’re set in the window by his wife
To guide him home where he belongs.

Their living flames grow tall and strong,
As on the board his food is set;
They guide him home where he belongs,
To the place of peace where none need fret.

While on the board his food is set,
Their golden glow sings like a song
In the place of peace where none need fret,
His home stays bright when the nights are long.

Their golden glow sings like a song,
And iris blue are their flick’ring eyes.
His home is bright when the nights are long,
For stars have descended from the skies.

And those candle stars still shining gold,
Were set in the window by his wife,
Till he’s drawn home to her sweet arms’ fold,
By the symbols of hope and the joy of life.
