Grace and Beauty, Eternal Strength

Grace and beauty, eternal strength
Are to be seen on every ground;
Defeating even death at length –
Victorious life is always found.

There to be seen on every ground
Where humankind’s dead hand has lain,
Victorious life is always found –
See green spears pierce the barren plain.

Where humankind’s dead hand has lain
With tarmac covering the earth;
Green spears now pierce the barren plain
And on our wastelands spring to birth.

With tarmac covering the earth,
We are the masters of our world;
Yet on our wastelands spring to birth
Fresh leaves, and beauteous flowers unfurl.

We are the masters of our world?
With seeming ease life proves us wrong;
Fresh leaves and beauteous flowers unfurled
Rise up anew, a glorious throng.

With seeming ease life proves us wrong,
Defeating even death at length,
Raising anew, a glorious throng
With Grace and Beauty, Eternal Strength.

(Inspired by a picture of a flower growing through tarmac)
